While Colombia Supports the unfreezing of assets and aid. Colombia does not support the actions of the Taliban Afghanistan government.
The Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in 2021 after the United States withdrew all focus from the country. They regained control they had lost in December of 2001. Afghanistan suffers as a 4th wave of coronavirus hits.”Nine of the country’s 37 COVID-19 hospitals have already closed and all aspects of the pandemic response have slowed down, including surveillance, testing and vaccinations, causing fears of a fourth wave of the disease.” And other countries have frozen assets and shut off aid to the people with many facing Critical Hunger and thirst as other countries are refusing to cooperate with the taliban.”An estimated 22.8 million people — more than half of Afghanistan’s population — are expected to face potentially life-threatening food insecurity this winter.”.
One of the main causes of economic downfall is oppression of women because the new laws don't allow women to work. Also, other countries have frozen assets belonging to the Afghanistans in refusal to work with the taliban. Colombia is a country that has faced problems with constant insurgent conflict and paramilitaries attempting to seize power. Colombia supports sending aid to Afghanistan but wants the actions of the government to stop.
Colombia has suffered from paramilitaries and armed insurgents in the past as they attempted to take control of the government. Colombia Might be able to help Afghanistan. Colombia is a newer country and has dealt with conflicts of independence before. They are willing to send aid to Afghanistan however do not support the action of the Taliban government. I's records of conflict could provide a roadmap to help the Taliban into peace negotiations. As it did with the FARC.”Like Afghanistan, Colombia was mired in conflict for decades. But, in 2016 after five years of direct negotiations, the Colombian government and Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP) signed a historic peace agreement that sought to address the root causes of a 50-year conflict.”
Afghanistan was a major epicenter for narcotics trafficking as they supplied 80% of all opium to Europe. ”We are increasingly seeing both government-affiliated militias and armed insurgent groups in Afghanistan become reliant on poppy; just as every guerrilla and paramilitary group in Colombia descended into financial dependence upon the cocaine trade.” Colombia supplied almost 80% of cocaine to the United States at one point. The Cocaine trade supplied money to insurgents and paramilitaries. Colombia used counter-terrorist operations to stop Cocaine trade and the paramilitaries and insurgents ran out of money. Colombia has the experience of stopping drug operations and could lend help to slow the Taliban. This is a last resort option however as it would further down benefit the people who are suffering.
